Whilst you read this, I'm sure some newfangled University that has recently been converted to a Uni after outliving its life as a library is bogging you down in the latest research. As we rush toward Summer, we pine for that beach body - fear not my friends, it isn't far away.
I have some rest-bite for you, nothing complicated, no HGH flushing or catechin consummation.
Think about it, there are two halves to losing weight - exercise (expenditure) and diet (income). If you diet and only diet, yet do no exercise you will simply put on less weight - not strip back that looming gut! Whilst in terms of muscle gain, eating is considered superior to exercise, with last minute weight-loss you are going to have to pull out that lycra (not essential) and burn some fat.
So that's the easy stuff that your average PT will fly over and leave the primary stages to yourself - what do you do next? That depends, if you are going on holiday in 3-4 months time you can make a difference - but it'll be a task. What I vouch for whenever I try to shift a few pounds is known as HIIT.
That's an abbreviation of High Intensity Interval Training, simply put sweat your backside off, rest, sweat it off again. Find a local park, hopefully there'll be a tree line, or maybe a soccer field. Pick a distance that you can maintain a sprint for - say 100m (two sides of a soccer field) - then sprint that distance, put your hands on your head, breathe deeply, then do it again. It'll get progressively harder, but don't change the rest, and maintain maximum effort, even if speed capability decreases. That is where the high intensity comes in.
I know some will vouch for longer distance intervals, but simple fact is, if you run faster, you will burn more fat. Fact.
Then there was one. Diet. Don't walk before you can crawl - cut down simple things that you know aren't doing your body any good. I recommend a two-week detox - no chocolate, crisps, alcohol, ice cream. Get it out of your house, give it away, sell it, bin it - remove temptation. That isn't just about weight loss, it also counts for general wellbeing - you'll feel great.
